In recent years, geological research has taken on a rhythm that can only be defined as frenetic, conditioned above all by the important influence of oil research studies and the continuous development of cognate sciences, which have contributed with their methods and ideas to the main science.
Geology is therefore a science that is continually changing and improving, a science that plays a crucial role in everyday life, engaged in solving many problems which are important and even vital to human life.
Apart from palaeontology, the sciences closest to geology are mineralogy, petrography, geochemistry, physical geography, earth physics, and also geodesy and topography.
